RESTAURATION GOYARD HAT TRUNK

The malle2luxe catering workshops are located in the heart of Paris . The places being closed to the public we take advantage of the site  malle2luxe.fr to make you discover our art, that of reviving old objects, abandoned. Like this old Goyard hat trunk that a Saint Ouen flea merchant gave us. The trunk was in very poor condition and unsaleable as is . Our mission is to give it back the elegance of yesteryear without distorting it.

Return it to its original condition before its last trip, or had it been kept dry and maintained by house staff?

Cleaning the canvas, simply keeping the patina of years spent traveling.

Founded in 1845  The luxury house Goyard was a major turn-of-the-century manufacturer rivaling Louis Vuitton even though production was outnumbered. The standard and nobility of the clientele were the same, sometimes mingling.

Due to less production, Goyard trunks  are less present on the second-hand market  . Even if their selling price is lower than that of a Louis Vuitton trunk, they are nonetheless popular with an informed public . We do not know a collector of uniquely Goyard trunks, but rather collectors of Louis Vuitton trunks who  adorn their collection  with exceptional Goyard or Moynat pieces  .

This head cover has always been a fashion must , and even more so from the 19th century, for men and women. It is therefore inconceivable to come out naked or bareheaded in passing for a person of the lower classes.

From 1900, there was a real craze among women for voluminous and very heavy hats. Adorned with ribbons, oversized feathers and floral arrangements (fresh or in fabric) in Art Nouveau style , it had to be matched to the outfit.

The transport of these luxury accessories which cannot be compressed requires imposing trunks where they could be stored  and pinned to the ribbon cage  so as not to crumple them.

It is not a simple cleaning . This restoration requires a little more without being of great complexity for us who are used to last chance restorations. Damage due to  improper storage  :

• Soiling and soiling of surfaces and  warped canvas
• Oxidation of brasses
• Leather cleaning

The result was up to our mastery of the various trades. The quality of our restorations  is unmatched  and the result is once again proof of this. The trunk has regained its chic, its luxury.  

Its patina, steeped in history, invites us to imagine distant journeys , this trunk which protected the most beautiful hats of its rich clients, at a time when the headgear was an accessory reserved for an elite to shine in the eyes of the world.

And what greater satisfaction than to see this merchant, happy to find his trunk transformed. He had no trouble selling this superb Goyard trunk, which left in just a few days. Ideal for decorating a bedroom.
