We are going to tell you two incredible stories . Those of a merchant who owned the treasures unknowingly. This chip merchant from Saint Ouen, specializing in Louis Vuitton travel trunks. Entrusted us with two old Louis Vuitton trunks one year apart for restoration.
- The first of a Red painting - initials: FA
- The second of a Brown paint - initials MD
LUXURY TRUNK PAINTED DURING THE WAR
- The first the fabulous woven striped canvas Circa 1872, this weaving is made with dyed linen threads in the mass. We believe that this red paintwas applied to give it a facelift, a new look , without taking into account that this extraordinary trunk would be so valuable many years later. The initials FA were repainted over the red paint but below we found marks of a previous black marking with identical initials .
- The second, a prestigious Damier canvas Circa 1890. This technique was common during the various world wars when wealthy families fledtaking their luggage. For the sake of discretion , their Louis Vuitton trunks were painted black or brown.
The challenge of these two restorations was of great magnitude, almost lost in advance. Stripping a painted trunk is indeed practically impossible. The nature of the fabrics is completely different.
AFTER RESTORATION - MALLE2LUXE

- The woven fabric will be dry-stripped. In fact, if the canvas is wet, the diluted paint will enter the fibers and stain the striped woven canvas forever. Our client's wish was to keep the initials FA on the side, so we had to strip the paint, taking care to leave the initials ... we were no longer close ... After stripping we could proceed to the restoration of other elements such as steel , brass, wood and canvas with a traditionalnatural process identical to that used in 1872 when creating this waterproof canvas which protects the contents of the luggage.

- The checkered canvas is a canvas coated with a stencil which imposes totally different techniques. It will therefore be necessary to use a solvent-based stripper , taking care not to strip too much otherwise everything will go away. It 's precision chemistry . To strip this trunk you will need more than 450 liters of water. It's a long job that requires great concentration . After stripping, 90% of the paint could be removed, we were then able to restore the checkered canvas.
For each trunk it will take perseverance, even relentlessness, but the result is fabulous ! The two intact trunks reveal an exceptional canvas. 100% of the original canvas is preserved and original, no paint was used to restore the canvas of these two trunks!
